Danery Bridgnorth Review
WHEN you walk into the Danery, near Bridgnorth, you are greeted with a lovely open fire and the welcome is even warmer. Andrew and Ros, who took over this delightful restaurant four years ago, have created a wonderfully cosy, cheery feel that attracts diners from miles around.
And it is a real family affair with Andrew front of house, Ros doing the cooking and daughter Kathryn helping out, even little Merlin, their dog, makes an appearance.
The Danery is a few miles out of Bridgnorth and convenient for Dudley, Kidderminster, Wolverhampton etc. It is signposted off the main road so no getting lost trying to find it.
The restaurant has a bar area and various different-sized sections so they can cater for parties of all sizes. There is even a small area nicknamed the Nookie although Andrew jokingly
points out that he does make sure couples don’t get too intimat
The layout gives just the right amount of space and privacy and the décor is cosy and traditional including stained glass windows as you walk in, a lovely touch. But enough of the décor the really wonderful thing about the Danery is the food. When they give you the specials board that’s exactly what they mean – special.
We popped in on a Saturday night to sample the fare. The menu itself was packed with goodies but the specials board was itself enough to keep us
happy. It is changed every month so you never tire of the choice which often includes pheasant, guinea fowl, venison and partridge to reflect the country location.
We opted for starters of whitebait and avocado with prawns.
Both were very generous portions and came with salad and of course lemon. For our mains I went for one of my favourites seabass served on a bed of stir-fried vegetables
and my husband had the rib eye steak with a melted stilton topping and port sauce. This came with a choice of potatoes and a plate of seasonal vegetables.
For pud I again settled for a favourite crème brulee but this came with a difference chocolate and raspberry. Delicious! There is also a function room ‘The Shed’ which seats up to 50.
There is plenty of parking space to the front and side and at the rear a landscaped beer garden and safe area for children with a play Elephant. The prices are mid range with the popular
Sunday roast at £7.50 and there is also a selection of bar snacks.
The restaurant offers special seasonal events including Italian nights and seasonal events such as Halloween (October 30/31 two courses for £13.95/three courses £16.95)
German Night November 24 (four courses for £19.95) and several offers for the Christmas period (Dec 1-24). Lovely spot, lovely people and a must for food lovers!
