The search is on to find the UK’s home-grown culinary superstar, with the launch of Aubrey Allen’s ‘Home Cook of the Year’ competition with the help of celebrity chefs, Brian Turner CBE and Andreas Antona as judges.

Entries are now being welcomed for this challenging new foodie initiative, which is being held in conjunction with the Leamington Food & Drink Festival on 6-7 September in the Royal Pump Room Gardens, Leamington Spa.

Aspiring home cooks of all ages are invited to enter by submitting their most favourite three course menu, which includes a cold starter, a hot main course using Aubrey Allen’s succulent ‘Farm Assured’ Cornish lamb and their very best dessert. Four finalists will be short-listed to take part in the Grand Final at the Leamington Food & Drink Festival on Sunday 7 September, which features a live cook-off for the main course, as well as tastings of their pre-prepared starter and dessert.

Brian Turner and Andreas Antona will judge the finalists’ culinary expertise and execution. Joining the gourmet duo is Warwick and Leamington Spa MP Chris White as the third umpire, to provide a subjective palate on the tasting panel. Peter Allen from Aubrey Allen, The Chef’s Butcher said: “We’re really excited about bringing this competition to the Leamington Food & Drink Festival, as it reflects the growing dine-in culture for restaurant style food at home and provides a platform for aspiring chefs.

“It’s also designed to highlight the amazing culinary talent that’s practised in the home and we’re welcoming entries from all generations who don’t have any professional cooking experience.” Commenting Stephanie Kerr, executive director of BID Leamington said: “The Leamington Food and Drink Festival provides the perfect setting to find a home-grown culinary superstar.

“The festival is a fantastic showcase for artisan food and drink producers and we’re encouraging all foodies who believe they have a talent for producing superb home cooked food to enter. “Visitors come to the festival from all over the UK and we’re certain that the live cook-off, which includes a guest appearance from Andreas Antona, will be one of the highlights.”

In addition to being crowned ‘Home Cook of the Year’, the winner will receive two places at Aubrey Allen’s Butchery School and two places at Simpsons Cookery School including dinner for two and an overnight stay at Simpsons in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
