Taste of Turners at The Bell Tanworth in Arden

A recent self styled ‘Michel-INN pop-up restaurant’ was hailed a success by the lucky diners who managed to secure a space on the night.

The picturesque village of Tanworth in Arden hosted a special evening for the regions gourmands, being the first foray by Michelin Chef Richard Turner from his eponymous restaurant kitchen in Harborne. Self taught Chef Richard famously secured his Michelin Star in 2009 and has since hardly missed a service, wowing guests from all over the UK with his clean creations and attention to seasonal ingredients and flavours. He was however recently enticed from his kitchen to run a true ‘pop-up’ restaurant, which is becoming a fashionable way to express new ideas and bring excitement to fine dining across the UK.

The first in the Midlands this ‘Taste of Turners at the Bell’ event famously sold out tickets within 4 hours of going on release and the lucky 45 diners were treated to a tasting journey especially created by Chef Richard “I wanted to push my own boundaries and create an experience more fitting to the surroundings and service of a traditional pub like The Bell – drawing on local suppliers. The feedback was very positive on the dishes and the food and it was good to receive feedback from my own regulars as well as many new faces who perhaps had not tried this style of cuisine before – it was a real learning curve for everyone – and good fun – once we had finished service!”

Host Ashley Bent, proprietor of The Bell added “no-one new what this would be like so we approached it with the view to keep things simple but fun – the sell out speed was amazing and the range of customers we had was also very reassuring – the feedback was very positive and my team have also learnt more about the style of food and service – It was a great success and we may look at repeating something similar perhaps in 2014. We would like to thank everyone for coming and their positive feedback”

One of the lucky guests on the night was Midlands Entrepreneur Julie Summerell from TR-fleet Management “I was lucky enough to recently win a bid at an auction for Birmingham Charity Fisher House – and the prize was for Richard to cook Sunday Roast at my house for some friends – it was an amazing experience, and as soon as I heard he was operating this pop-up I just had to attend. My friend drove from London for it and said that he would have driven twice as far for the experience – we both loved it and the team really looked after us.”

James Day, Director of Gourmet-Life.co.uk – Lifestyle Dining Club which helped put together the event and promote it through his dining club added “this was an exciting event from start to finish – working with Richard and Ashley was great fun, and both being sticklers for detail meant we could promote this event jointly with our partners BITE Festivals with confidence – selling out in just 4 hours from launch was remarkable – it just goes to show that the casualisation of fine dining as this is the way forward, and people including our members are seeking out new experiences such as this – judging my their feedback on the night and quality of the food, the demand for similar events will continue”
