CBD Food Festival

Michelin-starred Glynn Purnell of Purnell’s

Michelin-starred Glynn Purnell of Purnell’s

The CBD Food Festival 2013 will showcase the diverse and exciting food and drink offering within Colmore Business District (CBD), the commercial heart of Birmingham city centre.

The festival has returned for a third year after a hugely successful two-day event in 2012 which saw over 15,000 plates sold. 27 venues, many of whom are independent businesses, will be serving taster options priced from as little as £1.50 to £5 in Birmingham’s Victoria Square.

Visitors can sample mouth-watering internationally inspired cuisine as well as traditional British options. The variety of culinary delights will include delectable sweet and savoury options and a range of coffees to try. Real ales, fine wines, champagne and delicious cocktails will also be on offer.

There will be a programme of live cooking demonstrations from top chefs in CBD, including the Michelin-starred Glynn Purnell of Purnell’s and David Colcombe of Opus Restaurant.

Following feedback from last year, the 2013 festival will have an increased focus on its sustainable credentials, with a waste management company providing a recycling service.

The festival will once again take place with the ever popular Birmingham International Jazz & Blues Festival, which will see live music performances hosted by CBD for the fifth consecutive year. Visitors can also look out for fantastic outdoor theatre and performances from CBD’s choir of local business people, Colmore Chorus.

David Colcombe, chef director at Opus at Cornwall St and visiting professor of food at University College Birmingham, said: “Within Birmingham’s square mile, Colmore Business District, there is a fantastic selection of eateries. From independent cafes and coffee shops serving artisan sandwiches and ethically sourced coffee through to Michelin recommended restaurants, there’s something to suit every taste and budget.”
