Birmingham Michelin Chef Richard Turner Does Night-Bike Challenge for Local Charity

Chef Richard Turner Opening the QAC Collage Cafe

Michelin Chef Richard Turner, of Turners in Harborne, recently visited Queen Alexandra College (QAC) to open one of their new facilities [Pictured} – a café and therapy centre – and judge a student cake decorating competition. About his visit, Richard said ‘QAC is a great place in our community and does incredible work with the students and clients. The atmosphere is extremely positive and focuses on what people with disabilities can do, not what they can’t. Its is important that places like this in our neighbourhood receive as much support and awareness as possible ’

QAC is a national charity for people with disabilities such as vision impairment, Autism and physical disabilities. The college, based in Harborne, Birmingham, offers challenging learning opportunities for people with disabilities to realise their potential to work and live independently.

Whilst at the College Richard was amazed by what he saw, so much so he signed up to take part in London Nightrider in June. The event involves an exciting 100km moonlit cycle ride past some of London’s iconic landmarks including Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, London Zoo and the Royal Albert Hall.

Richard will be joining other ‘Team QAC’ cyclists for the challenge, with sponsorship going towards QAC’s ‘Fit for the Future’ Sports Hall campaign to raise money to enhance sports provision at the College – an important activity for many of its 140 students.

Hugh Williams, principal at the college says “as a charity we rely on the support and generosity for our volunteers and donors to help us provide the best opportunities and facilities for our students. To have Richard, someone from the local community, onboard and supporting us is fantastic.”
