New Midlands Chefs Alliance together for Relish Cook Book Launch

Midlands Chefs Alliance meet for Relish Cook Book Launch at Hotel La Tour, Birmingham

Midlands Chefs Alliance meet for Relish Cook Book Launch at Hotel La Tour, Birmingham

Chef were brought together recently for  the launch of a new Cook Book for the Midlands. No great shakes I hear you cry, the only difference is the publishers of this book managed to achieve what others have only tried. Bringing together not only 25 of the Midlands finest chefs in one book, but more remarkably in one room, especially accounting for recent high emotions on the social twitterati waves!

The event was held at Hotel La Tour, the city’s newest hotel, whose Aalto Restaurant menus are prestigiously influenced  by Executive chef Marcus Wareing, and whose recipe for his La Tour Head Chef chef Alex Penhalighan was included in the book. Relish Cook book lists 75 exclusive recipes from 25 chefs, as well as a well stocked larder section highlighting the myriad of artisan producers who supply the regions gourmet tables. From Michelin Starred Andreas Antona, who wrote the foreword, and fathered many of these chefs including Matt Davies from The Moat House in Staffordshire, his very own Luke Tipping, and of course Glynn Purnell who also trained in the original Simpsons Kenilworth kitchens. The proud holder of our second city star, Chef Richard Turner was also represented and congratulated the efforts of the publishers “its very rare to be in such company with everyone celebrating  the regions finest, with no real egos or agendas.” commented Richard.

All 5 border counties are covered within the book, as far afield as Ludlow with Will Holland making an appearance, Orles Barn in South Herefordshire, The Granary and Colwall Park in Worcestershire, The new Warwick and Nuthurst Grange in Warwickshire, and the Swan with Two Necks and the Wayfarer in Staffordshire.

Midlands Hospitality specialist James Day of Leisure Marketing Midlands LTD and Gourmet-life dining club who are supporting Relish Publishers commented “this project has been a real journey. Many restaurants are finding trading tough, but as they say, the cream always floats to the top, and we find it is the better more discerning venues like the ones we have selected to appear in this issue who are actually doing better. Customers want a discovery, consistency and good value – these venues offer that at every level from great country pubs to fine dinign Michelin restaurants. This sort of celebration of the regions finest just helps maintain the status of the region, and the City, as the gourmet capital of Britain.
