Michelin Restaurant Simpsons of Harbourne, Birmingham launched their long awaited follow up to their successful ‘Modern French Cooking’ book launch in 2006. Their new creation, simply called ‘Simpsons Cook Book’ promises to be more accessible in style, and more innovative in content – offering a perfect table top book for the modern gourmand.

With over 190 pages, 90 recipes and 174 beautifully photographed dishes. Eat-the-Midlands were invited to the launch held in the secluded gardens of Simpsons Restaurant bathed in Mid-Summers Day sunshine, and we caught up with some of the key contributors. Photographer Jodi Hinds, who was commissioned for her ‘eye for detail, and appreciation of natural lighting’ commented “I was delighted to have been asked by Andreas to photograph the dishes with the team. It was a long, but very enjoyable process, the guys are such perfectionists, but the results, and of course the tasting of the dishes, made it all worth while  – this is the first time I have seen the finished item, and I am delighted with the results”.

Chefs Andreas Antona, Luke Tipping and Adam Bennett have chosen their favourite and most popular dishes for this Cook Book which have been set out in an easy-to-follow format. Aimed at amateur chefs and passionate foodies, Simpsons – the cook book is brimming with starter, main course and pudding recipes that will impress any gourmet guest. The book  handholds its readers through impressive but realistic Michelin-starred recipes and is ideal for dinner parties or simply for those who want to up their game in the kitchen.

Andreas commented ‘We didn’t want to be all show-offs and cheffy’ adding ‘we wanted a book food lovers can use and enjoy, but push themselves a little too. This is a great team effort from myself, Luke and Adam giving an insight into popular dishes that our customers regularly ask us the recipes for.’

The event was attended by key journalists and food writers from the region including Richard McComb of the Birmingham Post, and Paul Fulford of the Birmingham Mail, both avid foodophiles, and willing recipients of their copies “It looks great, I look forward to reviewing it for next weeks paper, and trying out some of the dishes” commented Richard. Midlands ITV news presenter Bob Warman was also keen to try out some of the dishes ” I love Simpson Restaurant, but I bet I cant quite get the dishes to look they do”. Managing Director John Murphy of Publishers RMC of Sheffield, who specialise in food and lifestyle publishing added “working with Andreas was a real pleasure. He is such a perfectionist, and the vision and direction was a real breath of fresh air for us, resulting in what we feel is our best publication to date”.
The book includes starters like ceps on toast with summer truffle; and risotto of goat’s cheese, piquillo pepper and rocket. Main courses cover rustic dishes from poulet Basquaise to great favourites such as cote du boeuf, Yorkshire pudding and roast new season carrots. A Sunday lunch alternative of sticky glazed spare ribs is a great favourite of Antona and his hungry brood of four. Eye-catching and delicious desserts range from great retro efforts such as black forest in a glass and chocolate baked Alaska to the more simple but equally impressive white chocolate truffles with rum and vanilla; perfect as petits fours with coffee.

Family-owned Simpsons restaurant, which has its own cookery school, was established over 18 years ago and is just minutes away from Birmingham city centre.
