MasterChef Finalists Launch Exclusive Dinner Event

MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker, with finalists Tim Kinnaird and Alex Rushmer

MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker, with finalists Tim Kinnaird and Alex Rushmer, have announced that they will be realising their dream of cooking together for the public in a special two-evening event on 10th and 11th June at Peel’s Restaurant, Hampton Manor, Hampton-in-Arden.

The event marks the launch of this year’s BBC Summer Good Food Show (16th – 20th June) which opens the following week at the NEC. All three finalists will also be appearing at the event on 18th, 19th and 20th of June.

The three course dinner will consist of dishes cooked on the latest series of MasterChef and diners will get a chance to meet the finalists after the dinner and quiz them on their journey to the final, what they’ve been up to since and their plans for the future.

Dhruv Baker said: “Since winning MasterChef life has been a complete whirlwind. I can’t wait to visit Birmingham, not only to launch the event at Hampton Manor, but also I’ll get to see the family that live close by in Birmingham.”

Tim Kinnaird said: “My first job as a doctor was in Solihull Hospital so I’m really looking forward to returning to the Birmingham area – it will be my first Good Food Show too and with everything I’ve heard, it sounds like a complete treat for any foodie.”

Alex added: “I can’t wait to get back in the kitchen with Dhruv and Tim, especially at such a prestigious location.”

For just £119.95 per head, the evening includes a champagne reception, three course dinner and a MasterChef book and goodie bag, including ticket to the BBC Summer Good Food Show.

Special couple’s tickets are also available for £199.95 which include one book and goodie bag. Special Discounts on this event…

Alex, who will be cooking the starter of Braised Pigs Cheek with Crispy Ear and Pomme Puree, said of the dish: “This is a version of the dish that I did for the challenge at The Tower of London during the semi-finals. For me the real challenge in cooking is creating something delicious out of something unusual and this dish – with tender braised cheeks and crispy, pork scratching like thin strips of ear – illustrates that perfectly.

He goes on to say: “There are some really modern touches in there as well so despite being a seriously classic, very British combination, it is a modern take on it. It got great comments from the diners at the Tower – even if some of them were a little dubious about the ear! – and I hope that the gourmands of Birmingham enjoy it as much. And at least this time I won’t have to be running across cobblestones to get the food to the table!”

Dhruv, who will be cooking the main dish of Achari Duck Breast with Pickled Carrot Puree and Spiced Plum Sauce, said: “I did this dish in my quarter final and it was a real high point for me in the competition. Gregg and John were incredibly complimentary, and said that they rarely tasted dishes as complex and elegant and that was quite emotional.

He continued: “I had worked on it for months and months before doing it on the show and it’s a dish that I think sums up my style – classic cooking techniques married with the Asian flavourings that I grew up with. And for those who remember the dish from the show – I promise I’ll cook my rice properly this time!”

Tim, who is well known for his puddings on the show, will be making the dessert of Chocolate Mousse Baked Meringue with Crème Anglais and Caramel Shards. He said: “I absolutely love doing puddings so at the start of the semi finals when we had to cook one dish to stay in the competition I knew I had to do something sweet.

“I ended up creating this which was inspired by the classic Floating Islands dessert of meringue in light custard, but I wanted to make it a bit more sexy and special so I played around with some different ideas and ended up adding the chocolate mousse and the ginger orange sauce. I’m really proud of it and I’m sure that everyone will love it as much as I do.”
