Granary Grill, Weston Park Opening

Granary Grill, Weston Park

Granary Grill, Weston Park

May saw the opening of the long anticipated ‘Granary Grill’ set in the stunning grounds of Weston Park on the Shropshire Staffordshire borders.

The  70-seater restaurant offers an extensive menu of high quality locally-sourced food and drink, much sourced from their very own estate.
The Granary Grill completes the final phase of the restoration of the Granary building. The ambitious development project has already seen the transformation of part of the disused building into a farm shop and art gallery.

The Granary Grill, located in the old malting house of the Granary building, and features a state-of-the-art open plan kitchen with a large grill where Head Chef Guy Day’s team will sizzle up lunch and dinner seven days a week. A split level ‘Mezzanaine seating area will provide diners with beautiful views over Church Pool and estate cottages.
The restaurant development will complete the estate’s dining repertoire allowing visitors the opportunity to enjoy great food at everyday prices as Colin Sweeney, Chief Executive explains: “Our latest project will complete the food experience in the Granary. Our farm shop and in-house butchery will supply the Granary Grill with locally sourced produce and we are excited that the last piece of the jigsaw is falling into place.”

Eat the Midlands (ETM) Editor James Day was lucky enough to be invited to the pre-launch party, and sample the new menu, whilst meeting many of the regions producers. We enjoyed starters of Bridgnorth based Brockhall Farm Goat’s Cheese (Producer Sarah Hampton pictured below) served with char grilled vegetables, oven dried tomatoes, beetroot relish and pine nuts, also Grilled marinated tiger prawns, with avocado salad. Both dishes maintained good depth of flavour, with the grilled vegetables offering an intense flavour contrast to Sarah’s delicatly fresh Goats Cheese, and the ‘grilled prawns were succulent, and tender. For Mains, steaks were the order of the day, choosing from Shropshire, Staffordshire or Scottish Estate bred ‘Buccleuch Estate’. Opting for Buccleauch Estate Fillet, served rare, and Shropshire Steak Sirloin, served rare to medium. Both served perfectly with possibly the best chips in Staffordshire / Shropshire!

Desserts were a tough choice. The Creme Brulee, with chargrilled pineapple, served in more of a Creme Anglais sized dish (no complaint!), was a ‘taste sensation’ as described by  guest Paul Newman editor of www.midlandsbuinessnews.co.uk my guest exclaimed (seconded by James). The Lemon Meringue, served with pistachio sorbet, which i could have eaten separately, was also refreshing, and came with dusted pistachio nuts. Wines were well presented with a good choice serving over 25 by the glass! See the sample menu HERE granary-grill-menu, and book early as the Granary Grill, Weston Park, looks like it is quickly going to become a destination for the regions Gourmands.
